Spotlight Shines on Singapore in Cannes

All eyes were on Singapore during the first day of MIPTV 2010 as the nation took its place as the “Country of Focus”.

As part of the honour of being the “Country of Focus” at the world’s premier media market held annually in Cannes, France, Singapore hosted a conference called “Focus on Singapore” to promote Singapore content, capabilities and services and encourage more international co-productions and partnerships with Singapore companies.

Come Collaborate with Singapore, Says Minister

How did Singapore transform itself from a third world nation to a first world one in just one generation? This was the question Singapore’s Acting Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts (MICA) Mr Lui Tuck Yew asked during a speech at MIPTV 2010 in Cannes.

The answer: “The key ingredients are good governances, a hardworking and enterprising people and pragmatic policies, openness to the best ideas and talent from around the world and diversification of the economy for sustained growth.”

MDA Launches International Animation Fund

If you have an idea for an animated programme, and would like to work with a Singapore company to co-produce it, the Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA) would like to hear from you.

MDA on Monday launched a new financing initiative called the International Animation Fund at MIPTV in Cannes. Aimed at boosting co-production possibilities for Singapore animation companies, the fund will see MDA co-investing up to S$5 million (US$3.5 million) for each qualifying project.

The fund is open to applicants from all over the world for new animation content in any format.

Winners of Multi-Platform Initiative Announced

Two new projects – one involving the idyllic paradise called iLand and another, an investigative series called Eco Gone Mad – received the green light after being awarded funding under the Multi-Platform Content Across Continents initiative.

The initiative was launched at last year’s Asia Television Forum in Singapore by the Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA) and South West Screen (SWS), the development agency for the film, TV and digital media industries in the South West of England.

Eco Gone Mad, by Apostrophe Films (Singapore) and Junction K (UK), and iLand, by Scrawl Studios (Singapore) and Wonky Films (UK), will both receive a total of up to £50,000 in funding.
