News and Notes from MIPCOM: 16 October 2008 Fremantle-MDA Approves Three Multi-Media Projects Three Singapore firms have been greenlighted to produce content under a partnership between FremantleMedia Enterprises (FME) and the Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA). In April this year, FME and MDA signed a multi-year production agreement which commits both partners to investing into multi-media TV projects, which are set to generate US$12 million over the next two years. The first three companies to receive investment under this agreement are:
Imaginary Friends Studios, Oak3 Films and Ochre Pictures. The three firms were chosen jointly by FME and MDA, with FME retaining the rights to distribute the programmes internationally. The deal with Imaginary Friends Studios – Asia’s leading graphic novel house – is a first look deal that will see the company produce content specifically for the television platform with the opportunity to extend into multi-platform applications such as gaming and mobile applications. Oak3 Films will produce an eco-programme called Tribal Warming. Profiling the lives of indigenous people around the world who are at the forefront of climate change, the show seeks to explore how these people have adapted their lifestyle to cope with environmental instability. The agreement with Ochre Pictures plans to push the boundaries of cooking and travel shows with the infusion of original ideas. Extreme Cooking will see a well-known chef placed in an environment foreign to him. The chef will then use the lessons learnt to inspire new dishes.
