At the Singapore Party held at Cannes last Friday, Dr Tan Chin Nam, Chairman, Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA), highlighted the co-creation opportunities available in Singapore and reiterated MDA’s wish to collaborate with more international partners on co-productions.

In his opening remarks, Dr Tan urged the international media community to partner with Singapore to take advantage of the myriad growth opportunities in the region.

One international partner that will be doing so is Tiger Gate Entertainment. Under a strategic partnership with MDA, Tiger Gate will be co-producing a slate of multiplatform film and TV projects over the next four years. MDA and Tiger Gate sealed the partnership with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding at the party.

Dr Tan also welcomed international producers to be part of the upcoming ScreenSingapore. This international cinema event in Singapore will serve as a gateway for international players to gain access to the growing Asian market, whilst offering a platform for Asian cinema to be promoted and marketed to the world.

This message was reinforced by Mr Ashok Amritraj, Chairman and CEO, Hyde Park Entertainment, who spoke on his longstanding relationship and ties to Singapore. Mr Amritraj is a member of the ScreenSingapore Board.

With the start of principal photography in July, the production of Bait will reach another milestone.

Drawn by the strong buzz Singapore had created with its announcements and showcase of over 100 Singapore-made films at Cannes, some 200 international producers, distributors and government officials as well as media representatives attended Singapore’s networking party.

The party also threw the spotlight on the achievements of Singapore cinema, especially director Boo Junfeng’s debut feature Sandcastle, which had enjoyed full houses at its screenings that day. Junfeng addressed the crowd and thanked the Singapore Film Commission for its support of his film.
