Media producers in Singapore and around the world can now tap another initiative for film and television projects.

The Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA) and Tiger Gate Entertainment announced in Cannes last Friday their strategic partnership to co-invest in a slate of action, horror and thriller projects for worldwide television and film releases over the next four years.

Tiger Gate, which is a joint venture by Lionsgate Entertainment and Saban Capital Group, will represent all selected projects across all platforms, including theatrical, within Asia. Lionsgate Entertainment, one of the most successful independent film and television distribution companies in North America, will manage all distribution outside Asia.

Said Dr Christopher Chia, Chief Executive Officer, MDA: "The addition of the MDA-Tiger Gate initiative to our existing pool of funds translates immediately to greater opportunities for Singapore filmmakers. Through the alliance, green-lit projects will have access to Lionsgate’s extensive global distribution networks, providing Singapore filmmakers with a greater impetus to co-produce internationally marketable projects peppered with Asian sensitivities that resonate with the global audience."

This MDA-Tiger Gate partnership is MDA’s latest international fund initiative to promote more co-productions with global partners. Other private media funds in Singapore include US$75 million from the MDA-Hyde Park-Imagenation alliance; US$20 million in production funds from Singapore’s Infinite Frameworks; and the US$70 million Integrated Media Fund from Salon Media Management, a Singapore-based subsidiary of Hong Kong’s Salon Film Group. With the launch of the MDA-Tiger Gate partnership, the total value of private funds available in Singapore stands at just over US$1.1 billion.
